Moe & Ryan - Oakland

Ryan and Moe met in 2001 and were married at San Francisco’s City Hall in 2004 during the "Month of Love." After the courts voided their marriage, they decided to donate their license to the Oakland Museum of California. They have postponed any formal ceremony until they can take out a valid marriage license recognizing their union to legally marry in the state of California.

“We have our parents’ blessings to marry,” says Moe. “Both our mothers are very creative women who love travel and world culture. This influenced us growing up, and we’re lucky in that they would like to see a ceremony that combines the traditional with the unique and that reflects our Mexican and Irish heritage. And so would we. After seeing pictures of my siblings’ weddings—where even the mayor of our small town was invited to attend—and since both our mothers love to dance, Ryan is now convinced that a celebration that continues until the next morning is the way to go!

06/16 UPDATE: We are now married. But we have yet to do the reception with Friends and Family. We're planning it in August. We were originally going to pick up our license in SF next monday after everything calmed down...then have the officiation and celebration in August. Now we'll just party in August.

You are not going to believe what happened! We were contacted by the Mayors office and the Alameda County clerks office last Saturday the 14th. They asked if Ryan and I could personally join in on a celebration with the Mayor who would officiate a civil ceremony with Congresswoman Barbara Lee as witness. We joined 1 of 18 couples in the community whom Ron Dellums wished to preside over....how could we say no? Such an honor. I can't believe they contacted us. So we were married on June 16th

Things are so crazy these days... The world can only get better. It seems like a blur to us too. I guess that's what happens when it's real.
